About:

A lot of the kids I work with love playing with food toys. As much fun as it is for them, after a while they do need to sit and learn a skill. Rather then stopping their imagination, I decided to explore Learning Resources Goodie Games. The game I recently got for one of the kids I work with is Learning Resources Goodie Games Color Cookies.

Product Design:

Learning Resources Goodie Games Color Cookies comes in an adorable cookie jar with a red lid. The jar is transparent making it easy to tell what is in the jar. The cookies and all cards fit nicely inside. The lid has a small nob easy for all kids to open.

Once the jar is open, the children love taking out the cookies. There are 36 heavy duty plastic cookies with four different colored fillings including green, orange, red,  and blue. If this is not adorable enough, there is a complete set of black and a complete set of white cookies.

In addition to the well designed product, the cookies come apart. This is a great feature because it gives added hands on work for some of the kids.

Pros:

  • Fun educational game
  • Great for math
  • Perfect for matching
  • Well made
  • Kids love it
  • Nice details and colors
  • Easy to put cookies together

Cons:

  • It is nice that the cookies can be mixed and matched but once assembled, they are a little to loose fitting for me. They will stay together when doing math but if you have a more active child, tossing the cookies around lightly will cause them to separate.

Suggestions:

  • Math: You can use this as a grow with me math toy. If you have a little tot learning to count, they can start by counting the cookies. After they master that, you can give them a pile of two cookies and another with three to add. In addition to addition, you can use the cookies for patterns. The included cards will help with that.
  • Colors: This is less of a grow with me option but still great when the child is ready. You can start by having the child match the colored creams. They can match red with red. Do not worry about the color of the cookie because that will come later. Once the child can match the cream and the cookie try getting creative. For example take a black cookie with blue cream and pair it with a white cookie with orange cream. Have your child copy. This is a little harder to do but will work on visual skills and a more complex color recognition.

Age Range:

  • 3 and older
  • Children learning colors
  • Children learning math

Bottom Line:

I really like  Learning Resources Goodie Games Color Cookies because it can be used for multiple skills at multiple levels. In addition, kids learn a lot better with hands on manipulative. If the kids are happy and learning, then I am happy teaching.
